WHAT:

Russell Sage College is pleased to welcome Sapphire, author of Push: A Novel, the basis for the award winning film, Precious. The book and movie tell the story of an abused, illiterate, overweight, pregnant teen and her struggles to find hope. The book centers on the young girl’s transformation as she gains confidence by learning to read and write.

Sapphire received a number of awards for Push: A Novel, including the Black Caucus of the American Library Association Literary Award: First Novels and the Mind Book of the Year Award.

Precious: Based on the Novel ‘Push’ has been nominated for 4 Oscars, 8 NAACP Awards. 3 Golden Globes and numerous others.
