ValleyCats Advance to New York-Penn League Championship
After Batavia Muckdogs and Tri-City ValleyCats plated 14 runs apiece while splitting the first two games of their New York-Penn League semifinal series, one run is all ValleyCats needed to put end to Batavia’s season. Jake Buchanan allowed three hits while fanning six over seven frames and Mike Ness picked up the two-inning save as Batavia edged Tri-City, 1-0, in Game 3 on Thursday.
ValleyCats advances to the New York-Penn League championship game for the third time in seven years. They will face the Brooklyn Cyclones on Saturday at 7 pm at Joe Bruno Stadium, followed by games at Brooklyn on Sunday and Monday (if necessary). The ValleyCats reached the finals in 2004 and 2006. They lost to Mahoning Valley Scrappers in 2004, and Staten Island Yankees in 2006.
The Brooklyn Cyclones advanced to the New York-Penn League Championship Series with a 6-4 win over Jamestown Jammers in Game Three of the NYPL Semifinals. The Brooklyn Cyclones had a 30-8 home record during the regular season, and will maintain home field advantage in the Championship Series.
