The Troy Pig Out is this weekend. Professional BBQ teams from across the entire United States come in for this two day competition. Saturday features the People’s Choice St. Louis Rib competition, and Sunday is the signature event, the NYS BBQ Championship. This is a serious competition, with a team of 38 licensed judges blindly determining the winners of each category. Scores are based on taste, appearance, and texture. The champions of this competition take home cash, but better yet Victor the life sized golden pig. The true token of BBQ master!

SIGNATURE EVENT:
Peoples Choice Rib Championship
Beginning at 5:30pm, help crown the Troy Pig Out People’s Choice Rib champ! At just $1 per rib, you can sample them all, and help raise money for the Northeast New York Chapter of the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure!

It works like this: At 4:00pm, tickets will go on sale for $1.00 each at a special ticket booth by the competitor area. Buy as many as you like. 1 ticket gets you one rib. For every 5 rib tickets you buy, we will give you a special ‘voting ticket’. After you have tasted all the ribs you care to try, drop your voting tickets at the booth of your favorite! Buy your tickets at 4pm and start sampling at 5:30! We have 8,000 tickets to sell – first come, first serve!!

1:00pm – - Pork Butt/Shoulder turn-in

2:00pm – 3:00pm – - Chef Demonstration: Chef Larry Schepici, Hollywood Brown Derby
2:30pm – 4:00pm – - Music: Doc Scanlon’s Rhythm Boy’s
4:00pm – - Awards presentation

SIGNATURE EVENT:
New York State BBQ Championship
At 12:00pm, our BBQ competitors will begin to turn in their championship entries. Every half hour brings a turn in time for another category.

This is serious business – so look out for charging BBQ’ers! A team of 38 Kansas City Barbeque Society licensed judges will be ready to blindly determine the winner in each category, basing their scores on three ingredients: taste, appearance and texture. The Grand Champion is awarded ‘Victor’ – our life sized golden pig (and cash of course, but we think the pig is pretty cool)!

Plus competitions for: Overall, Chicken, Pork Ribs, Pork Butt/Shoulder, Brisket!

    This is our third year competing in the Troy Pig Out :D This a great event! The rib-off is an ability for the public to try our BBQ! This raises money for The Northeast New York Chapter of the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure! There are many teams to try! but if you want the BEST come on down and try the ribs @ Swamp Pit BBQ they are the awesome!!

    Buy your tickets early they sell out quick!

    Last year the ribs were all gone within two hours :(

    The ribs were so good! I will be attending this event every year now. Soo much food! Soo much BBQ!!

    It was even great that the Farmer’s Market was right there too. Basically one could have gone to the market, picked up fresh veggies, cheese, bread, and desserts. After, head on over to the BBQ competition and picked up some tasty BBQ. Put it altogether and what a great day, great food, and great times!
